Press: Interview for Electric Playground

I was asked to be one of the artists who was interviewed in the Chuckwa segment for the TV show Electric Playground. Miri was a super sweet host, and asked me about my plush and urban vinyl customs. It was an amazing experience. Check out the video below:

After we figured out the set-up, the camera guy takes footage of the deer.

This was the final set up with my plush deer and Kalua Moola custom.

Inside of the Chuckwa store.

And this is me after the interview was over... happy, relieved and ready for a chai latte at Starbucks! haha.

Here are a few in progress pics of things I've been working on lately. After spending weeks painting the Kalua Moola custom, I wanted to do some sewing again. I've been working on 10 plush deer, and some of them will be hitting my Etsy shop tomorrow. But for now, here are some in progress pics.

Body parts waiting to be sewn...

After hours of work, the deer are all sewn up. Now I decide colours for noses, eyelids and dots...

Lucky is unsure about the growing deer herd...

Here's an in progress pic of my Kalua Moola custom. I had just put sealer on his lower body which is why he's drying upside down. ;)

And last but not least, I was super pleased to discover I was featured on Plastic + Plush's Etsy Wednesday blog feature (09/09/09)! Yay for little brown Ghostie!

Lucky wins the Kitty-Gurumi Contest!

My cat Lucky won the Kitty-Gurumi Contest hosted by Moonscreations! He has been immortalized into amigurumi form! (I'm so proud of my boy! ♥) You can read all about the story here, and he can be purchased in Moonscreations' Etsy Shop here.

I entered a few pics of my sweetheart, but it was this photo that won Moons over:

You see, Lucky bites his tongue by accident from time to time. He'll be licking his fur and then get distracted mid lick. He forgets that his tongue is out and keeps it stuck out like that for a few minutes until he remembers to put it back in his mouth again! It's kinda hard to tell in this pic, but his right eye is orange, and his left eye is green. Both of his eyes started out green at first, but his right eye started changing to a rust colour over time. Now he's 14 years old and his right eye is completely rust coloured. He can see fine out of both eyes -- the vets are totally baffled by it!

And here is his backstory for the amigurumi plush listing:

Lucky is a cat who has lived up to his name. He is currently on his 5th life, after going through several near-death experiences. Despite his odd interest in risk-taking, he is very lovable, quirky and extremely vain. He insists on wearing a tuxedo every day of the year, and always makes sure his fur is clean and soft.

He loves posing for the camera, and sometimes will stick his tongue out at you if he thinks you're being silly. He loves to be held in your arms, and will nestle his head into your shoulder if he thinks you are extra special.

He loves affection and will never say no to gentle pets or a scratching under his chin (when you do this, he tilts his head and his right eye twitches). Lucky is a loyal companion, and will always be there for you whenever you need a little bit of extra love.

Press: Vinyl Pulse + Twitter

I haven't posted in a week because I came down with a bad cold and it knocked me out for a few days. :( Luckily I'm over it now, but being sick has pushed back my projects by a week, and now I have lots to catch up on. I missed a very important deadline I was aiming for -- more to come on that. :S

Anyways, Vinyl Pulse wrote a nice post where they suggested me as someone to follow on Twitter! Isn't that sweet! :)

I'm going to be painting a Kalua Moola, designed by Lord Mesa and sculpted by Eric Nocella Diaz. I'll be posting in progress pics as I go along. Below is the figure I'll be customizing. Just look at how cute and tough this little bugger is!

Here's a sneak-peek at what the packaging for the box will look like. I think it rocks!!! EEEEE! (That's me squealing in excitement, lol) I'm soooo super excited about this! :)

Etsy's Plush Team: Stuffed Magazine - Volume 2

The latest issue of Stuffed magazine is out... and I have a photo in it! Stuffed: A Gathering of Softies is a new magazine all about handmade plushies. It's published by Stampington & Company and only $14.99! (You can order Volume 1 here and Volume 2 here. Apparently they're also available at Barnes & Noble bookstores.) Stampington & Company publishes LOTS of other creative magazines that look so awesome! I might pick up their magazine Where Women Create next, because I love looking at other artists' workspaces. :)

So here's the 2nd issue of Stuffed below. As you can see, there are two cute plushies and Etsy's Plush Team is mentioned on the front cover!

Inside is a 4-page article all about the wonderful team I'm a part of! I'm so proud of all the Plush Team members! This issue featured lots of awesome plush makers, so it's definitely worth picking up if you're into handmade plush. It's such an inspiring magazine to flip through.

On the last page of Plush Team's article, they published a pic of my art studio (when I was in Canada, August 2008)! I really miss that workspace a lot! :( You can also see my Etsy shop's name followthewhiterabbit.etsy.com on that page. (LOL, I'm such a dork!)

Below is my original photo. Lots of deer waiting to be made as the Fafi postcards oversee production in the background! :)

And because I'm feeling sulky about missing my old workspace, here's another photo of the whole room. My newest Audrey Kawasaki print was supposed to hang in that blank space. ::sniffles::

Photos: 2009 Re-Ment Calendar

Back in September '08 I was contacted by Re-Ment International about using one of my images in their 2009 Fan Club Calendar. I was so flattered that they asked me to be a part of their calendar because I love collecting and photographing Re-Ment's cute miniature toys. The calendar was made for the Los Angeles Re-Ment Fan Club meeting in November. Re-Ment sent me a copy of the calendar but I had already moved to the USA by that time. Last week when I came back to Toronto I was finally able to see the calender in person. My photo of the Marching Card Soldiers from the Fairy Tale Tablewear set are pictured on the month of April. Here's my photo of the 2009 Re-Ment Calendar:

The Marching Card Soldiers represent April in the Re-Ment 2009 calendar.

And here is the original photo:

I buy Re-Ment from Ebay, Etsy, and in specialty collector shops like Valley of the Dolls. :)
